From fog to sun: A day of acrylics in Cala del Moral

Cala del Moral, Málaga

If you read my last post, you know that December 6th was a freezing, foggy adventure in Fuente Palmera.

Well, the very next day, we decided to change the scenery completely.

On Sunday, December 7th, we stayed closer to home and headed to the beautiful Cala del Moral (just next to Málaga) for another Pintura Rápida contest.

What a difference twenty-four hours makes!

Sun, sea, and friends

We traded the fog for glorious sunshine and the church tower for an incredible view of the sea. Cala del Moral is such a calm, lovely place. Being so close to Málaga, it felt like a home game. I got to spend the day painting alongside many of my friends from the local area.

There is nothing quite like painting with the sound of the waves in the background and the sun on your back. It was exactly the recharge I needed after the cold of the day before.

Stepping out of the comfort zone (again)

In Fuente Palmera, I experimented with collage. For Cala del Moral, I decided to shake things up again. Lately, I have been doing a lot of watercolors. It has become my "safe place." But I believe an artist should never get too comfortable. So I packed away the watercolors and brought out my acrylics. I focused on capturing the vibrant blues of the sea and the warm light of the coast. It felt great to use a thicker medium and paint with more texture. I was really happy with the final picture, and I received so many compliments from people passing by! They told me they loved seeing me try something different. It was a good reminder that stepping out of your comfort zone usually leads to the best results.

The curse of the car?

Now, it wouldn't be a Repka Arts adventure without a little bit of drama! You might remember the "roof incident" in Montoro. Well, at the end of this beautiful day in Cala del Moral, we went back to the car to pack up... and the battery was dead. The car just wouldn't start! My poor partner Marino (who is the best assistant in the world) had to deal with calling the insurance and waiting for the tow truck. But honestly? Even with the car trouble, we couldn't be upset. We had spent a beautiful day in the sun, surrounded by art and friends. In the end, the car was fixed, the painting was finished, and we went home happy.

It was a weekend of contrasts. Fog and sun. Collage and acrylics. Córdoba and Málaga. And I wouldn't change any of it. See you at the next one!
