Shaping the Idea
Every piece starts differently. Some I throw on the wheel. Some I build by hand, piece by piece. Some begin with a mold and then I push them somewhere unexpected. The technique follows the idea, not the other way around.
The Glaze is the Voice
My glazes are personal. Mixed, tested, sometimes failed and tried again. Low fire, high fire, layered in ways that only reveal themselves inside the kiln. I never quite know what I will find when it opens. That is part of it.
The Journey to the Fire
We load the pieces carefully and take them to our kiln. Some come back after one firing. Some need two or three before they are ready. Each cook changes something. I wait, I look, and sometimes I send them back again.
