The Texture Foundation
I start with acrylics and whatever my hands find that day. Sand, paper, fabric, paste. The surface becomes something you want to touch before a single color has been added.
Listening to the Layers
Once the base is dry I bring in the oils, letting them settle into the texture, pool in the crevices, catch the light in ways I never fully plan. Each layer talks to the one beneath it.
Knowing When to Stop
Mixed media on canvas is the hardest to finish because it is never truly done, only abandoned at the right moment. I step back, I look, and at some point I put the brush down and trust what is there.
