This past Saturday was a very busy, very special day.
I participated in the Pintura Rápida competition in Torremolinos, right here on the sunny Costa del Sol. And I am so happy to tell you that I came home with the 3rd Prize!
But this win was extra special for a different reason.
A birthday on the Paseo Marítimo
Saturday was actually my partner's birthday!
Instead of relaxing or sleeping in, he spent his special day doing what he always does: being my absolute "partner in crime." He was there carrying the easel, making sure I had water, and taking amazing photos of the process.
He is the one who captures me in my moments of inspiration. I couldn't do this without him, so this prize felt like the perfect birthday gift for him, too!

Sun, sea, and big watercolors
The atmosphere in Torremolinos was just super cool.
I set up my easel right on the Paseo Marítimo (the beach promenade). The views were incredible—the blue Mediterranean sea, the sand, the palm trees. I decided to stick with my new favorite challenge: large format watercolor.
It’s tricky to manage such a big watercolor with the sea breeze and the sun drying the paint fast, but I love the energy it gives the final piece.

Art connects us
One of the best things about painting in such a busy, touristy spot is the people.
There were so many people passing by—locals enjoying their walk, tourists soaking up the sun. I met so many new people! We had great discussions about art, about watercolor techniques, and about the beauty of the Costa del Sol.
I love when art becomes a conversation starter. It makes the solitary act of painting feel like a community event.

The 3rd Prize!
After a long day of painting in the sun, the judges announced the winners... and I got 3rd Place!
It was the perfect ending to a beautiful day. We celebrated with the trophy, the sea view, and a toast to art and birthdays.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello in Torremolinos!
With love,
Maryna
